We at Tenny Street Roadhouse are driven by the firm belief that the Americas in general and the United States in particular has given rise to some of the greatest food and greatest music the world has ever known. The reason for this lies in the collision of many cultures, both indigenous and imported that has been the hallmark of almost all things American. Stated otherwise, there is no purely American food or purely American music. Rather, the genius of both great American food and great American music lies in the blending of the countless influences the avid adoption and adaptation of many cultures’ contributions to create things new and wonderful and, through this process, American.
Perhaps no cuisine better displays the American genius than the delicacies that came from southern Louisiana. In the fertile Delta of the Mississippi, cultures and cuisines from France, Spain, England, the Caribbean isles and several native tribes resulted in a spectrum of tastes, both hearty and delicate.
As with American food, American music stems from the convergence of many diverse cultures. It is a great big amalgam of genres, a stew of sounds and rhythms imported from the four corners of the Old World, melded together in the New World in a kiln flamed by industrialization, poverty and wealth, civil war and civil rights struggles. It is an incredible gumbo, stewed for domestic consumption, exported in plain, brown paper packaging, then reimported with added ingredients and, again, boiled back down to a thick and tasty and, once again, uniquely American mixture.
At Tenny Street Roadhouse it is our mission and our promise to bring you great American Food and great American music on each and every visit. |
